I Get Knocked Down, But I Get Up Again

I’m writing this a little late.

I apologize, but I was in shock. So much hubris going into this season, so much hype. I couldn’t understand what I was watching. I could have sworn we were going 17-0 and winning a Super Bowl. But I have come down from the high. Yet I have not sunk to a valley low either.

As our Pats Staffer Dylan so kindly put in his recap, the Pats let victory slip away. We had glory in our grasp. Revenge for a championship loss not six months prior was in our eyesight. When Darnold went down, it was over. I was stupid enough to think, “Oh, when we beat them now, the media is going to say it’s a fluke because Drew Lock is in at QB.” I was too proud.

The Seattle Seahawks are a really good all-around team. Really good, to the point where I would say Darnold isn’t even that great of a QB. (His Super Bowl stats actually point to that as well, although he still has the ring.)

THAT BEING SAID, we still should have won that game. Our defense held up and kept them scoring low. But Drake Maye and the offense couldn’t get anything going. Highlighted by the early loss of our #1 receiver, A.J. Brown, and the stinkiness of our #2 (ironic) receiver, Romeo Doubs, the offense was embarrassing.

Drake Maye also had his worst game of his career. You are in Year Three, man. You can’t hide behind ignorance anymore. Those were some terrible picks.

So, what do we do now?

I’ll tell you what we do now. We go out there and kick the Steelers’ ass. We beat them to a pulp. We send Aaron Rodgers to the retirement home early. We make the Rooney family regret they hired a geriatric Mike McCarthy to captain their brittle-bone franchise.

We take out our pain of losing Brown to the IR, Drake breaks off the rust against a conference rival, and we show the fans in the stands of the home opener that we are still a premier team in the AFC.

We get knocked down, but we get up again.

Bears (Fantastic offense, defense has concerns)

Patriots (We lost to the #1)

Jaguars (Go Trevor Lawrence!)
Kansas City (C’mon, man, just go away)
49ers (Surprised how good they look, one ACL tear from sucking)
Giants (My dark horse. Something about Harbaugh with Dart makes me giddy)

Week 1 was outstanding, last night’s Buffalo and Lions game kept it going, and we’re in for a slew of great games.

Football is back.

The Patriots won’t go down easy.

Drake Maye is going to get back up again.
