Don Sweenius, Hopefully

The B’s find themselves a few years out from their tenure as one of the NHL’s perpetual Stanley Cup favorites. There’s no denying Don has had his share of controversial decisions in his time as GM. However, this current Bruins team is the result of one of his brighter days, the 2025 trade deadline. Though overshadowed by the dealing of former Captain, Champ, and rat Brad Marchand, the moves made that day accelerated what could have been a painfully slow rebuild. What was once a graveyard of a prospect pool is now… middle of the pack. You take what you can get, this is still the team that rightfully went all-in 4 seasons ago. Let us take this time to get to know some of the children:

JJ Peterka. Acquired from Utah by trading our ‘26 1st and FLA ‘28 1st (via Cap Rat). A 24-year-old German winger with the potential of being a PPG addition to our top-six. He’s a gamble given the price paid, but I myself am a man who spends a large portion of his Sundays on a particular green app.

Fraser Minten. Acquired along with a now unprotected ‘28 1st from Toronto in a fleecing for Brandon Carlo. A two-way center with a little bit of everything in his game. Has a shot, can be physical, and also has the vision and mind for making plays. Re-signed this offseason on a 7x$7.2M contract beginning after this season.

James Hagens. Drafted 7th overall in 2025, the former Eagle’s role in this upcoming season is to be determined. He will start as a winger until he can develop into what will (hopefully) be our 1C of the future. We have failed to develop a homegrown center for several presidential administrations, but this kid is cut from a different cloth.

Further looks into the veteran players, coaching, and schedule to come. The season kicks off on September 29th with the B’s taking on the Rags on Causeway. Will we have a Captain by then? Will I hit a parlay by then? Where is the Josh Jacobs tape?
