Here. We. Go.
Some days arrive quietly, carrying a certain feeling in the air that needs no explanation. The world seems to slow for a moment, as if holding its breath beneath a sky painted in quiet anticipation. The dew of the morning grass shines. The birds’ wings flap with determination. The crisp air blows through the streets to cleanse the world of its past. Once again, football is back.
Seven months …
It’s been seven months since we’ve seen the NFL play meaningful football. It begins just as it ended, with the New England Patriots facing off against the Seattle Seahawks. We are go for liftoff, ladies and gentlemen.
This is my favorite time of the year. The nights are getting colder, the days are getting shorter, and the gridiron is opening up once again. Just as pumpkin spice lattes pair nicely with the leaves changing colors, primetime NFL games are no sweeter than with the Patriots gracing your screen under the lights. This matchup is sure to bring fireworks to your living room. Drake Maye said it best when he said that this isn’t a revenge game, as “Seattle got the big one,” but oh boy, I do have a sense that New England wants to get their lick back. A tumultuous offseason filled with scandals of passion, an arms race, and a financial conundrum (this part was particularly stupid […and that’s saying a lot considering Vrabel was having relations with an NFL reporter]). Now we have returned to the starting line, ready to shoot off our blocks.
The team has one goal in mind. Hoist the trophy. Prove last year’s doubters wrong after they pointed to easy schedules and lucky breaks by doing it all again. We are a different team. Reloaded on offense with Romeo Doubs, A.J. Brown, Caleb Lomu, Elijah Vera-Tucker, and Eli Riardon. Bringing back the core of Maye, Stevenson, Campbell, Wilson, Henry, Gonzalez, Williams, Owenu, Barmore, Davis, Jones, and many more. Solidified on the coaching staff with Vrabes, McDaniels, and a newly promoted Zak Kuhr as DC, with Terrel Williams’ eye in the sky. These men are hungry and prepared.

A couple hot takes regarding the Patriots to get it out of the way:
Patriots will return to the Super Bowl. I’m not willing to say champions even though I just hyped them up for two paragraphs. Have you seen the Rams? Did you hear Aaron Donald’s going to pair up with Myles Garrett? I pray we don’t lose to the MVP stealer, Stat Paddford, but they are scary. However, they play in the NFC and I don’t really see anybody coming for our AFC crown.
A.J. Brown will have the best season of his career. I’m a huge Jalen Hurts hater, but it doesn’t matter anyway, Drake Maye is the best QB he has ever played with. His deep-ball accuracy will pair up with Brown’s downfield catches beautifully, even better than people expect. I predict a 1,500+ yard, 13+ TD season.
Drake Maye will be the MVP. Against a better schedule this year, he will have better stats with new toys to play with and will finally get the recognition he deserves. Look for 4,500 passing yards, 500 rushing yards, and 40 combined touchdowns.
Christian Gonzalez will be in DPOY voting. Is this a hot take? Probably not, but normally, after a payday, a player’s production dips a little. But don’t expect that from #0. He will have plenty of opportunity against all the wideouts he’ll face.
We are only a short time away from the action. So, get your popcorn ready, find a comfortable seat, and break out the dusty “I Heart Drake Maye” shirt from the back of your closet. The New England Patriots are back and ready to are ready to take the first step toward glory once again.
